We have seen a few different styles. Some with this clip and a slot in the rod, some with a hole and cotter pin, and some press fit. Best bet, check your rod(s).
my 76 bronco manual shift on the column has this type of shift linkage retainer, looks like it was installed from the factory, does it also need the item# 8388 shift linkage retainer clip installed on the rod? C4 Automatic Shift Linkage Retainer Bushing | 73-77 Bronco, 73-93 Ford Truck
